A recruitment roadshow, designed to attract new police recruits to regional areas, has returned to the Southern Region, launching in Albury today.
The NSW Police Force ‘You Should Be a Cop In Your Hometown’ initiative aims to identify and recruit future police officers to regional areas, specifically targeting applicants to become an officer and return to their hometown.
Murray River Police District is among four priority areas in Southern Region, with placements dependent on operational needs.
The roadshow includes stalls showcasing the career pathways to potential new recruits, including Forensic Evidence and Technology Services, Rural Crime Prevention Team, Crash Investigation Unit and Traffic and Highway Patrol.
Southern Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar APM, said the program gave greater certainty for applicants particularly those in regional communities.
“For many people, a career with the NSW Police Force no longer means leaving the region they love. Through Be a Cop in Your Hometown, eligible recruits may have the opportunity to build a policing career while maintaining the lifestyle, family connections and community ties to their local community,” Assistant Commissioner Cassar APM said.
“Local police bring valuable local knowledge, strong community connections and a genuine commitment to making the community they live in, a better and safer place to live.”
The Southern Region Recruitment Roadshow is in Albury PCYC today from 10am-2pm. It will travel to the following locations this week,
- Wednesday 2 September 2026, Deniliquin High School, 10am-2pm
- Thursday 3 September 2026, Griffin Plaza, Griffith – 10am-2pm
- Friday 4 September 2026, Wagga Wagga PCYC – 10am-2pm
- Saturday 5 September 2026, Young PCYC – 10am-2pm
- Sunday 6 September 2026, Queanbeyan Police Station Open Day- 10am-2pm
