Remaining united during challenging times

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

Our number one priority is the safety and security of Tasmanians as we continue to face the challenges of coronavirus.

All Tasmanians should stand together and look out for one another during this difficult time.

Now more than ever it’s extremely disappointing to hear of reports of racist behaviour towards some members of our multicultural communities around Australia.

Equal Opportunity Tasmania has reported that it has received a significantly increased number of reports about racist comments and actions in relation to the coronavirus.

This type of behaviour has no place in our community. It’s not just wrong, it is unlawful.

Equal Opportunity Tasmania has produced an important fact sheet dealing with COVID-19 and discrimination, which can be found on their website: https://equalopportunity.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/564760/20.04.02-COVID-19-and-discrimination-law-fact-sheet.pdf

During this time, it is important that we all work together and respect one another, in order to get through this.
