Campers are being reminded to make hygiene their top priority to help prevent the transmission of any illnesses ahead of the upcoming long weekend for Brisbane residents.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) rangers are expecting a bumper long weekend for the state’s campgrounds, prompting a health reminder.
All campers should maintain safe physical distancing and the highest standards of personal hygiene, such as washing hands frequently with soap and water particularly after toilet visits and before preparing food or eating.
Rangers are advising campers to bring their own water supply, soap, hand sanitiser, and if possible, take their own portable toilet.
Members of the public should also ensure they have a face mask with them at all times and to wear it if they can’t maintain social distancing measures.
Extra rangers will be out and about providing additional campground services and advice where needed to ensure the health and wellbeing of campers, including an additional ranger presence at Inskip Peninsula, where a number of campers reported viral symptoms within the vicinity in 2020.
Rangers and contract cleaners have been deep cleaning the amenities at Inskip in a two-step cleaning and disinfecting process, as per Queensland Health guidelines, to help minimise the risks of viral transmission this season.
Rangers will be increasing the frequency of cleaning as a further precaution and amenities will have increased soap and sanitising supplies, but the best advice is for campers is to bring their own and be self-sufficient.
QPWS has been liaising regularly with Queensland Health about measures to reduce the risks and impacts of illness on campers.

No matter their health status or conditions, campers staying in close proximity to others need to practise heightened personal hygiene.
