Report fox to protect our penguins

Northern Beaches

Manly’s endangered Little Penguins are under threat from roaming foxes and need our help.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for foxes on the prowl and report any sightings to Council on 1300 434 434.

A fox and her cub were spotted roaming around Addison Road Manly this week. The area is home to Manly’s endangered population of Little Penguins.

“Foxes pose a major threat to our endangered colony of penguins, so these little creatures need our help,” Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said.

“Sadly, our Little Penguin colony is still recovering from a fox incursion into North Head in 2015, when 27 penguins were killed.

“We estimate there are only 23 breeding pairs left in Manly, so these little penguins need our protection. If you spot a fox, or any unauthorised activity in our penguin habitats, it is really important that you call us.”

Residents are encouraged to report foxes to our customer service team on 1300 434 434 or download the Foxscann app to report sightings from their phone.
