Reseal program to renew regional roads

Many regional roads will receive a renewed surface as part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s annual reseal program.

Council’s Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee Cr Carol Taylor said the reseal program would help to maintain safety and restore and improve road surfaces across the Region.

“Council has allocated $8 million in the 2019/20 financial year to resealing regional roads. The ongoing program involves renewing more than 200km of bitumen seals across Council’s extensive road network,” Cr Taylor said.

“Resealing is a very economical way to help preserve our road network, which is one of our greatest assets. The work involves spraying bitumen and rolling in a layer of uniformly sized stones to create a new surface.

“The reseal is primarily about waterproofing the surface to protect the pavement and extend its life, as well as improve surface texture issues.

“More than 80% of the program will be undertaken across regional areas in the network.”

Cr Taylor said the program would cover sections of roads in the Millmerran, Pittsworth, Clifton, Greenmount, Oakey, Crows Nest, Hampton, Ravensbourne, Blue Mountain Heights, Meringandan, Kleinton, Djuan, Highfields, Goombungee, Gowrie Junction, Brymaroo, Yarraman, Bowenville, Doctor Creek, Glencoe, Cooyar, Acland and Boodua areas.

In the Toowoomba city area, sections of roads will be resealed in Harristown, Mt Lofty and Torrington.

“The reseal program is being delivered by Council staff and external contractor Colas Queensland Pty Ltd,” Cr Taylor said.

“Council has already started work on its part of the program, with the contractor expected to start in early November. The program is expected to be completed by Christmas 2019, weather permitting.

Access to properties will be maintained during the reseal work and traffic controls will be in place to assist motorists.

Council thanks residents for their patience and co-operation during these works and will seek to minimise disruptions where possible.
