UOW retains place among the world’s top 250 universities as research quality and industry collaboration rankings rise
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has climbed 30 places to rank 176th globally for research quality in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. UOW has also retained its position among the world’s top 250 universities, ranking equal 247th overall and 14th in Australia.
UOW’s industry collaboration ranking also improved, rising eight places to 200th globally.
THE World University Rankings assess universities across five pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration and international outlook. The research quality pillar measures the strength, excellence, influence and impact of a university’s research, including the recognition it receives from other researchers.
The 2027 rankings included a record 2,297 institutions from 118 countries and territories, up from 2,191 institutions last year.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Max Lu AO said the results recognised the quality and impact of UOW research, as well as the University’s connections with industry.

“The result reflects the growing influence of UOW research globally and the real-world impact our researchers are delivering through partnerships with industry, government and communities.”

UOW’s result was supported by strong scores across several underlying indicators. UOW recorded scores above 98 out of 100 in research productivity, research excellence and international staff, and above 96 in patents and research influence.
The University also improved its international students indicator score to above 94 and ranked 87th globally for international outlook.
