The Residential Parks Bill 2026 has passed the Tasmanian Parliament, delivering protections for long-term residents of caravan and residential parks.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said the Bill strikes the right balance between delivering stronger protections and greater security for long-term residents, while providing certainty and a clear, workable framework for park operators.
“We have listened and acted to deliver clear rights and stronger protections for long-term residents, alongside fair and transparent rules for park operators,” Minister Barnett said.
“This Bill replaces uncertainty with a dedicated legislative framework for long-term residents.
“I particularly acknowledge the residents of Beauty Point, whose long-running fight for greater security and certainty helped deliver these reforms into sharp focus.
“The Beauty Point residents’ advocacy and willingness to share their experiences have made an important contribution to this reform.”
The legislation delivers clear tenancy rights and responsibilities for residents and operators; establishes fair and transparent eviction processes; ensures safe and secure living conditions; and introduce clear governance arrangements and accessible dispute resolution mechanisms.
Minister Barnett said the Government will work to implement these important protections as soon as possible.
“Work is already well under way to finalise guidance materials and the other practical measures needed to support the new framework,” Minister Barnett said.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are delivering greater security and certainty for residential park communities.”
