Motorists are being urged to avoid Nathan Street near the intersection at Fulham Road as Townsville City Council upgrades the sewerage network, with works commencing this Sunday 18 October.
Council will close two lanes of traffic heading towards Dalrymple Road and one lane of traffic travelling towards Ross River Road for four weeks from 18 October to replace more than 130 metres of pipeline.
Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Services Committee chair Mark Molachino said it was an important upgrade for residents.
“This project will help us ensure the long-term integrity of our sewerage network in Heatley and Vincent,” Cr Molachino said.
“Council workers and contractors will work 24 hours a day in an attempt to finish the project as quickly as possible and minimise disruption.”
Cr Molachino thanked the community for their patience and understanding.
“Nathan Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Aya Street through to Ronan Street and another lane will also be closed to motorists heading towards Ross River Road as they approach Fulham Road,” Cr Molachino said.
“We strongly urge people to plan ahead and find alternative routes to reach their destination.”
Alternate routes include:
- Charles Street
- Lindemann Avenue
- Dalrymple Road
- Angus Avenue
Cr Molachino said Council will have signs in place to help motorists navigate the area.
