Residents invited to join Australia’s final Garage Sale Trail

Port Stephen

Council is encouraging residents to cash in on clutter as the Garage Sale Trail hits Port Stephens one final time.

After 16 years of turning driveways into treasure troves, Australia’s biggest second-hand festival is hosting its final double-weekend event. Port Stephens residents can join in by hosting a sale or visiting a market across 7–8 November and 14–15 November 2026.

Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said participating in this final year is a fantastic way for local residents to clear out clutter, make or save some extra cash and celebrate community spirit one last time.

“The Garage Sale Trail is a wonderful way to unearth incredible finds, clear out clutter, and build stronger community connections,” Mayor Anderson said.

“It’s just one more way Council is contributing to the circular economy in Port Stephens – keeping products in use for as long as possible and reducing landfill.

“This is the Garage Sale Trail’s final year, so it’s the perfect opportunity for our community to lead by example. We’d love for you to get involved by hosting your own garage sale,” Mayor Anderson added.

Garage Sale Trail Director Barbara Gill described 2026 as the ultimate celebration of how far second-hand selling and shopping has come.

“We started Garage Sale Trail because reuse was a no-brainer; a win for your wallet, a win for community connection and a win for the planet. Sixteen years on, that’s still very true and thankfully it has become mainstream with the secondhand economy now thriving,” Ms Gill said.

“This will be the final year the event is delivered by the Garage Sale Trail Foundation.

“We’re opening expressions of interest for a new custodian, brand or organisation to carry the Garage Sale Trail forward for years to come. Who knows what the future brings, but we know one thing for sure. This year we’re going out with a bang,” Ms Gill added.

Registration is free and includes access to downloadable signs, how-to guides and promotional tools, making it easy to take part.
