Response to the government’s national plan to achieve net zero by 2050

Business Council of Australia

We acknowledge the government for showing leadership by providing the level of coordination and integration required across the economy and the community to transition to net zero, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“A national net zero 2050 plan is needed to inform communities, investors and all governments about how Australia is going to address the complexities and challenges we face and capture the economic opportunities available to us as we transition.

“The scale, breadth and complexity of the transition to net zero has been described as the next industrial revolution by some commentators and equated with world war mobilisation efforts by others.

“Development of plans for each sector of the economy is the only way to effectively ‘build up’ to nationally determined contributions for 2035 and beyond, that are both ambitious and pragmatic and navigate an orderly transition to a resilient, prosperous net zero economy.

“The Business Council of Australia and its members look forward to contributing to the development of these plans and the consultation process over the next 12 months.”
