Pedestrian access to Yamba Main Beach has reopened today, with limited facilities available (Monday, 21 March 2021).
After the latest geotechnical report, the pedestrian access below Marine Parade is ready to reopen, subject to rainfall not exceeding 20mm on a daily basis.
The section of coastline has remained closed since recent weather events caused erosion to parts of Pilot Hill including the vehicle access point via Marine Parade.
Yamba Ocean Pool will remain closed until Marine Parade is repaired and Council’s Open Spaces crew can gain access to clean it.
Sections of the beach are barricaded off and signposted and will remain closed until further notice due to erosion and non-friable asbestos material found in the land slippage.
“Air monitoring has been conducted by a qualified hygienist and the readings to date are below relevant acceptable safe levels,” Open Spaces Manager Peter Birch said.
Pedestrian access via the zig zag path and from Pilot Hill Lighthouse remain closed.
“From Monday there will be one pedestrian access point open. However, this is subject to daily rainfall, so we ask for residents and visitors to be patient and please obey all signage and barricades which are put in place to protect the community,” Mr Birch said.
