Today marks the official last day of duty as a Northern Territory Police Officer for Assistant Commissioner Bruce Porter APM.
Assistant Commissioner Porter began his career as a constable in 1989 after seeing a recruitment ad in the Gympie Times. He worked his way through the ranks, serving in various positions across the organisation, including Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine and Tennant Creek, Ntaria and Yuendumu.
The Northern Territory Police Force has provided me with opportunities and experiences that I would never have been exposed to anywhere else in the world, and it has been the ride of a lifetime, said Mr Porter.
“During my career, I have made lifelong friends, made many acquaintances, and impacted many lives. The thing that I will miss the most is the people I work with each day.
“There have been some challenging times, and I have undertaken many roles and responsibilities, but that makes me strong and proud to be a member of the NTPF. Being a police officer in the Northern Territory has not just been a job. It has been a purpose, and I am forever grateful to have been part of the 150 years of policing in the Northern Territory.”
Assistant Commissioner Porter will begin his leave today, and his retirement takes effect in July next year, following 35 years of service.
Commissioner Michael Murphy APM thanked Assistant Commissioner Porter for his outstanding service and wished him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
