Locals are getting their first look at the final design for the new Pimpama train station, marking the next exciting step towards connecting one of Australia’s fastest growing communities to South East Queensland’s heavy rail network.

Pimpama is one of three new stations – alongside Hope Island and Merrimac – being delivered on the Gold Coast through Cross River Rail.

Following community consultation, ADCO Constructions was appointed to design and construct the station, with construction starting in late 2022.

Since then, work has been underway to finalise the design of the station in parallel with the construction program, taking into account community feedback.

The new Pimpama station will include lifts on each platform, accessible carparks and taxi bays, and accessible wayfinding.

Key features include:

  • Pedestrian station access via Kosciuszko Circuit.
  • More bike infrastructure, including outdoor bicycle racks as well as the 40-bicycle lock up enclosure.
  • Larger taxi and kiss ‘n’ ride bays, wayfinding signage and platform access.
  • Connections to bus services and active transport paths.
  • 380 parks when the station opens.

Significant progress is being made at Pimpama, with 189 piles already installed for the station’s platform foundations and retaining wall.

Meanwhile builders are preparing to put in the structural steel frames for the platforms, as well as new overhead electrical portals that will span the station building.

Major construction is expected to be completed by late 2024.

Following several crucial stages to ensure the station can operate safely and efficiently, including a period of extensive testing and commissioning and integration with existing public transport services, Pimpama station is then expected to open in 2025.

Elsewhere on the Gold Coast, early works and site set up activities are underway at Hope Island and Merrimac stations, with major construction to begin at both sites in the coming months.
