Reward your love of nature photography with $20k in prizes

The Nature Conservancy’s global Photo Contest is on now and interest from Australia is huge!

“Australia is punching above its weight this year in our global Photo Contest”, said TNC Australia director, Rich Gilmore. “At the halfway mark, only the USA and Brazil have entered more photos than Australia in our contest. On a per capita basis that makes Aussies easily the keenest nature photographers in the world.”

After the first week, the most popular photo worldwide was also Australian – a shot of sunrise across Perth and the Swan River – the site of one of our shellfish reef restoration projects – entered by Sue Errington-Wood (see attached).

The 2019 Photo Contest runs throughout August. As well as a grand prize, prizes will be awarded in September for six global categories as follows:

  • Cities and Nature: connecting with nature where we live.
  • Landscape: a sense of place with or without people.
  • People and Nature: recreation, adventure, people enjoying the outdoors.
  • Water: above, below, or in between.
  • Wildlife: in the wild or in our backyard.
  • People’s Choice: (winner chosen via public online vote).

Prizes will also be given for the best Australian photos as judged by renowned South Australian nature photographer, Ben Goode.

The total prize pool exceeds AUD$20,000 in value.

“There’s still time for anyone with a passion for nature to dig out their best photos or, better still, get outdoors and take some new inspiring nature photos to enter into our contest”, added Gilmore.

For full details, terms and conditions, and to upload your photo entries, go to www.natureaustralia.org.au/photo before August 31st.
