Greensborough Highway Patrol impounded a car in Greensborough this morning after the probationary driver was caught allegedly speeding.

Police saw the Mazda 3 sedan travelling on the Metropolitan Ring Road about 2.53am.

It’s alleged the car was detected at 139km/h in an 80km/h speed zone before officers intercepted it.

The car was impounded on-the-spot for 30 days at a cost of $884.00.

The driver, a 33-year-old Mill Park man, is expected to be charged on summons for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and failing to display P plates.

This impound forms part of Operation Saturn, a two-and-a-half-week state-wide road policing operation.

The operation commenced on Thursday, 22 October and aims to prevent further trauma on our roads caused by dangerous driving in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. It focuses on increased traffic on rural roads, drink and drug driving, seatbelt compliance and driving slowly.

Operation Saturn will run from 12.01am on Thursday 22 October to 11.59pm on Sunday 8 November 2020.
