Maroondah Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a theft from a car in Ringwood on 10 September.
Investigators have been told an unknown offender stole a bag from a vehicle parked on a hotel carpark on Canterbury Road about 8.10pm on Tuesday 10 September.
Detectives have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
The man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and aged in his late 30s.
He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white cap.
