Anti-social behaviour and property offending will be targeted in a seven day police operation in Alice Springs from this week.
Additional police resource will be deployed across known locations and reported hot spots during Operation Thayer, following a week of rising crime and assaults.
Assistant Commissioner for Northern Territory Police Force Regional and Remote Operations, Martin Dole said the community of Alice Springs had had a gut-full after experiencing a significant spike in property offending and anti-social behaviour.
“This past week we’ve seen a significant increase in property crime, including unlawful entries, stolen motor vehicles and random assaults on members of the public,” said AC Dole
“Our existing members have been addressing these issues rightly so, but with the current situation and the upcoming peak season for the southern region, we’ve re-directed officers to provide a zero-tolerance response.”
“The closure of the COVID border checkpoints allows us to deploy more police resources to provide ongoing and targeted operations heading into the peak tourism season.”
Operation Thayer will be the first police operation prior to the peak tourism season, dedicated to target property offending and anti-social behaviour.
