Riverina Police have charged a man after he allegedly assaulted another man during a robbery in Wagga Wagga earlier today.
About 11am (Tuesday 28 July 2026), emergency services were called to a unit block on Bentley Place, Wagga Wagga, after reports of an assault.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and were told a 40-year-old man had been approached in the unit courtyard by another man before he was allegedly threatened with a knife.
The 40-year-old was then allegedly assaulted by the man before his cash and phone were stolen and the man left the scene.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 40-year-old at the scene for lacerations and a serious wrist injury before taking the man to hospital for further treatment.
Following inquiries, about 1.25pm, police attended a unit on Edward Street, Wagga Wagga, where they arrested a 29-year-old man.
During the arrest, police located and seized cash, MDMA and methylamphetamine for forensic examination.
Following a canvas of nearby streets, police also located and seized a knife – believed to have been used in the earlier assault – in a recycling bin on Kadala Lane. It will also undergo forensic examination.
The 29-year-old was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, commit s114 offence having previous conviction and possess prohibited drug (two counts).
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 tomorrow (Wednesday 29 July 2026).
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
