The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) is advising residents that access into Idalia will be restricted following the further opening of the spillway gates.
Department of Main Roads have advised closures will be in place on Abbott Street, Lakeside Drive and Oonoonba Road.
Residents will be able to leave the area but will not be able to return until the TLDMG advises it is safe to do so.
Council crews are in the area sandbagging.
Australian Defence Force personnel are assisting with the sandbagging effort.
Police and the State Emergency Service are doorknocking the affected areas to inform residents about the further opening of the spillway gates.
