Road reconstruction works set for Rutherford Street

Rutherford Street in Swan Hill will get a major makeover with work to reconstruct and seal the road between Campbell Street and Curlewis Street commencing on Sunday.

The works will be funded by the Federal Governments Roads to Recovery Program.

Council’s Director Infrastructure Svetla Petkova said Rutherford Street had been identified following recent asphalt and pavement testing that showed that the roads condition had deteriorated and it required urgent repair.

Ms Petkova said the works to be undertaken by Whitfield Excavations, are expected to take around ten days to complete.

“Due to the road reconstruction works Rutherford Street will be closed to traffic from Sunday, 22 March to approximately Wednesday, 1 April from the intersection of Campbell Street through to Curlewis Street.

“Our contractors are committed to minimising any impacts of businesses and completing the works as soon as possible.

“Footpath access will be available to all shops within the vicinity.”

“Access to the Aldi and BWS car park will remain, however all traffic must enter and exit via the Curlewis Street car park entrance,” she said.

Ms Petkova urged motorists to be patient and obey signage when travelling in this area.
