The successful tenderer for Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Road Corridors Maintenance has been appointed, to begin in July 2024.

Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd will be responsible for the maintenance of our 1,700 km road network, as well as our drains and footpaths, ensuring that residents, rate payers and visitors enjoy a safe and well-maintained transport network.

Our Road Corridors maintenance contract is the first to be announced under our reshaped maintenance services delivery model, for the effective and efficient management of more than $2.3 billion of community assets.

Improvements to this contract address areas of concern raised by our community, including:

  • A new additional works program for road reconstruction and resurfacing
  • Simplified response times for the repair of potholes
  • A new activity to address road condition issues larger than potholes but not needing full reconstruction
  • Double the amount of roadside open drains to be cleared and reshaped annually
  • Use of new technology to target line marking renewal where it is needed most
  • New requirement for use of electric leaf blowers for street and footpath sweeping done at night.

The Contract requirements also make a big step forward for sustainability, including:

  1. Carbon neutrality in delivering the services
  2. The development and delivery of a long-term emissions reduction strategy
  3. Monitoring and data collection
  4. Renewable retail electricity procured or generated for contractor operations
  5. Recycled materials requirements, including needing to use of at least 10,000 tonnes of recycled materials over the life of the Contract.

Over more than a decade, we have worked with DM Roads to deliver the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s road and drain maintenance and are thankful for all their excellent work. We recognise their contribution to the protection of our roads and drainage.
