This week Rockhampton Regional Council are undertaking temporary safety measures along Malchi Nine Mile Road.

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said Malchi Nine Mile Road is a high-traffic rural road that has seen some recent damage causing safety concerns.

“Ensuring the safety of our residents using the road is a priority,” Cr Smith said.

“Due to movement in the surface under the existing bitumen, crews are putting a 125mm layer of gravel on top of two sections of the bitumen – the first section of gravel is 500m long, and the other is 160m long.

“This method of spreading gravel will help reduce movement until another alternative can be implemented.

“Signage is in place to highlight the sections where the gravel has been placed. We are asking users to drive to the conditions of the road and reduce speed when in the area.

“Council is currently determining a rehabilitation works program to combat the concerns that this road presents.”

Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford said implementing this temporary measure is essential for the safety of our road users.

“I want to thank the residents and road users whilst we undertake these measures and determine a rehabilitation works program,” Cr Rutherford said.

“I also want to encourage all road users to drive safely and to the condition of our road networks.”
