Roadworks to Commence on Glen Alice Road

Lithgow Council

Lithgow Council advises residents that roadworks are expected to commence on Glen Alice Road on Monday 8th March 2021.

As part of the Council’s commitment to the upgrade of priority rural roads within the city, the re-construction will provide 11 kilometres of bitumen seal on Glen Alice Road. These works have been made possible by a Federal Government Grant of nearly $1.5M.

This work will see the Glen Alice and Glen Davis Road completely sealed from Capertee to Glen Davis and Rylstone.

“In 2017, Lithgow City Council made the commitment to our Capertee Valley community that the entirety of Glen Davis and Glen Alice Road work be sealed between Capertee and Rylstone”, said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Ray Thompson. “With the financial assistance of the state and federal government, Council has been able to deliver upon this commitment 12 months early, thereby maximizing support for our residents, businesses and tourism operators in the area.”

“We choose which works to undertake by an independent and objective assessment of priorities of Council’s road assets,” said Mayor Thompson. “This means that even though Council’s resources are limited, funding is directed to where it is needed most, and grant funds are sought for high priority projects only.

When this work is completed, Council will have delivered 16 kilometres of new and replacement bitumen seal to the Capertee Valley in 2020/21, at a cost of over $2.1 million. With staff and local contractors completing this work, the funding has stayed within our community and this is a substantial achievement.”

Completion of the works is expected by April 2021, weather permitting. The patience of affected residents and motorists is appreciated, and Council advises that changed traffic condition detours must be observed while travelling through the area.
