Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged two men following an investigation into the alleged armed robbery of a container truck in Sydney’s south.
About 9.45am on Thursday 2 July 2026, police were told a truck carrying two shipping containers was blocked by a Toyota Hilux while travelling on Foreshore Road, Botany.
Five men – one allegedly armed with a pistol – forcibly removed the driver and held him at gunpoint. The remaining men opened one of the containers before leaving the scene empty-handed. The driver was uninjured.
Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command, together with detectives from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, commenced an investigation under Strike Force Zutav.
Three people have since been charged and remain before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, about 6.30am yesterday (Thursday 24 September 2026), strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed search warrants in Bonnyrigg and Smithfield.
Two men – aged 18 and 22 – were arrested and taken to Cabramatta Police Station.
The younger man from Bonnyrigg was charged with;
- Robbery while armed with dangerous weapon
- Aggravated possess loaded prohibited firearm public place
- Take person in company with intent commit serious indictable
- Assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group
- Participate criminal group contribute criminal activity
- Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic)
- Use carriage service to threaten to kill
- Use carriage service to threaten serious harm
- Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend
The older man from Smithfield was charged with;
- Robbery while armed with dangerous weapon
- Take person in company with intent commit serious indictable
- Aggravated possess loaded prohibited firearm public place
- Assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group
- Participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 25 September 2026).
