Rockhampton welcomes familiar faces as new Salvation Army leaders

Majors Miriam & Peter Sutcliffe have been appointed by The Salvation Army to take charge of its work in the Rockhampton and Yeppoon areas from mid-January.

The Sutcliffe’s are experienced pastors who are entering their 29th year as Salvation Army officers having previously served as Corps (church) leaders in Mt Isa and Cairns and for Miriam in Petersham in the Inner West of Sydney.) Both have also worked in Divisional and Territorial Headquarters roles, in Rockhampton, Brisbane and Sydney.

Central Queensland is not unknown to them. Peter was born and raised in Rockhampton completing his secondary education at North Rockhampton State High School before moving to Gladstone to work at 4CD, later to become 4CC. Peter spent 15½ years at the radio station. Miriam is from Mt Larcom where her parents were dairy farmers, and she completed her enrolled nursing training at Rockhampton Base Hospital.

For the last seven years whilst living in Rockhampton they have been both Divisional Secretary and Mission & Resource Director for the then Central and North Queensland Division and Area Officers. As Area Officers they gave oversight for the region from Maryborough to Rockhampton and west to Longreach and Roma in the south-west.

Majors Miriam and Peter have five adult children who are actively involved in The Salvation Army with their three boys being Salvation Army officers in New South Wales.

Major Miriam and Peter Sutcliffe have replaced Majors Dale & Ros Brooks who have retired and Captains BJ & Rick Moulder have taken charge of the work of The Salvation Amy in the Lockyer Valley. Replacing the Sutcliffe’s as Area Officers for Central Queensland are Majors Steve and Petra Dorman from the Gold Coast.

Majors Steve and Petra Dorman will be installing the Sutcliffe’s into their new role on Sunday morning 30 January during the Sunday morning service at 9.30am at Capricorn Region Corps (church) in Park Street, North Rockhampton.
