Rockville Clubhouse construction back out to tender

A tender for the Rockville Clubhouse and Amenities Building will soon be reissued to the construction market.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) originally went out to tender for Rockville Clubhouse and Amenities Upgrade in September 2021; however, due to market volatility and record high demand in the construction industry, no suitable tenders were received..

TRC Environment and Community Services Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said Council, at its Ordinary Meeting of 16 November, had granted an extension of time for the project to be completed across twofinancial years.

“Since COVID first emerged we’ve heard countless examples throughout the construction industry of material delays, in addition to shortages of labour and unreliable supply chains,” Cr O’Shea said.

“Unfortunately this has had an impact on several Council projects including the Rockville Clubhouse and Amenities Building. As such, Council has made the decision to go back out to tender with a revised budget and timeframe for project completion.

“Market indications suggest that most local builders currently have an extensive pipeline of work until mid-2022. This means we will no longer be able to complete construction by mid-2022.

“As part of the updated timeline, we’re hoping to begin construction in the second half of 2022, with the facility ready in mid-2023.

“While we would have liked to have completed the project earlier, it’s important we work with the sporting groups currently using the ground to make sure our plans don’t interfere too much with their regular activities.

“We’re conscious of having minimal impact on the groups utilising these fields and will continue to communicate with key stakeholders on the progress of the project.

“Council is committed to replacing the existing building with a modern facility that is able to meet the current and future demand of Rockville Park, including the continued growth of female participation in many sports including AFL and Cricket within the Region.”
