Ross Musgrove resigns as CEO

Western Downs Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Ross Musgrove has announced his resignation, marking the end of six years in the role.

Mr Musgrove had initially announced his resignation in early 2020, however following requests from Council, chose to remain in the role to help guide the region through the pandemic.

Mayor Paul McVeigh said Mr Musgrove had made significant contributions throughout his term as CEO and thanked him for his continued dedication to the role.

“Ross’s leadership and ability to be ahead of the game has delivered some fantastic outcomes for the Western Downs and it has been an honour working alongside him throughout my term as Mayor,” Cr McVeigh said.

“His capacity to lead a Council to be very financially sound, as well as his focus on building a strong work culture for our staff, have made a positive difference for the community.

“Ross and I have had a strong working relationship over the years, and I wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”

Mr Musgrove said it was the right time to step down from the role and cited his role in bringing Council out of debt and establishing financial sustainability and delivering one of the largest local government COVID-19 Recovery Packages as some of his biggest achievements.

“It was important for me to remain in the role to ensure consistency and stability when our region needed it most,” Mr Musgrove said.

“Now the vaccine is beginning to be rolled out and our COVID-19 Recovery Package is being delivered, it is time for me to move on from the role as CEO.

“The Western Downs is a wonderful place to live and leading an amazing organisation like WDRC has been a huge honour and privilege.

“The WDRC team is filled with wonderful people who are passionate about making their local community the best it can be, which has made my time as CEO extremely enjoyable and rewarding.

“I thank the Mayor, Councillors, and my colleagues for their unwavering support. The community is in extremely safe hands and I wish my successor the very best for the next chapter.”

Mr Musgrove will remain in the role until August. Council will now commence a recruitment process for a replacement.
