Construction is set to begin on a new $30 million dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of Heaslip Road and Curtis Road, delivering safer journeys and helping meet the transport demands of Adelaide’s growing north.
The Heaslip Road and Curtis Road Intersection Upgrade will ease congestion and significantly improve road safety for approximately 16,000 motorists who use the busy intersection each day.
This number is set to increase as nearby housing developments continue to progress, with more than 700 new homes expected to be built in Angle Vale in the coming years.
In addition to supporting forecast population growth and reducing congestion, the upgrade will boost local connectivity and safety for pedestrians and cyclists, with the installation of pedestrian refuges, designated crossing points and a new shared-use path.
This path will link to a new footbridge along Curtis Road, further enhancing access to the adjacent housing development and local streets.
Local manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers will also benefit from more efficient freight movements and improved connectivity to key markets and transport routes.
As part of this project, works will also include upgraded road surfaces, drainage, lighting and landscaping which will improve the long-term resilience of the Curtis and Heaslip road corridors, supporting a more reliable road network.
These works have been sequenced to accommodate SA Water’s critical water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades at the intersection to support housing growth.
From 2020 to 2024, there were 13 casualty crashes at the intersection, resulting in one serious injury.
The intersection upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments with the Australian Government contribution funded through the $1 billion Housing Support Program – Priority Works Stream.
The project also forms part of a $300 million investment in Curtis Road improvements, including the $250 million Curtis Road Level Crossing Removal Project at Munno Para.
