AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES

Disaster Response Teams deploy to support the local communities affected by the fires

SYDNEY, NSW 23 SEPT 2019—Due to the widespread nature of these bushfires Samaritan’s Purse will be deploying Disaster Response Teams to communities in Queensland and NSW. Samaritan’s Purse will be distributing fire kits, clearing properties, cleaning homes and sifting through rubble of damaged homes in communities affected by the fires. Today in Stanthorpe, Queensland Samaritan’s Purse have deployed their first Disaster Response Team with a trailer equipped with fire kits. The fire kits include protective equipment, a shovel, mattock, large and small crowbar, hammer, rake and sieve. These kits will be distributed to people who have been affected by the fires to help as they recover items.

Samaritan’s Purse continues to assess areas such as Beau Desert in Queensland and Drake in NSW to find out the extent of the damage and how they can provide support to local communities.

“Samaritan’s Purse recently received a request from the Beau Desert local council [in Queensland] to help support their recovery efforts so we will be sending an assessment team to that area to work out how we can best help this community.” Abby McPharlin – International Projects and Relief Manager
