In just six weeks, the first South Australian restaurants to be included in the global gastronomic bible, the MICHELIN Guide will be revealed to the world.

The restaurants will be revealed at a special ceremony held on Wednesday 14 October at the Adelaide Convention Centre, bringing together industry leaders, chefs, restaurateurs and partners locally and from around the world.
The ceremony will officially mark the first time any Australian destination has been featured in the world-famous guide.
Anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors have been evaluating restaurants across the state though five universal criteria, including the quality of the ingredients, the mastery of cooking techniques, the harmony of flavours, the personality of the cuisine and the overall consistency. The selection process is entirely independent, and restaurants cannot pay to be included or awarded distinctions.
The selected hospitality destinations from across the state will be presented with the globally recognised Michelin Guide plaques to display on their restaurants to indicate they are included in the MICHELIN Guide South Australia 2027.
Distinctions announced may include MICHELIN Stars, Bib Gourmand, and Michelin Selected, alongside individual Special Awards such as Young Chef Award, Service Award, and Sommelier Award. Chefs from restaurants receiving coveted MICHELIN Stars will receive a special Michelin chef jacket.
Michelin Stars are the most famous distinctions, awarded to restaurants offering the best culinary experiences – with only a very small fraction (approximately 4%) of all starred restaurants in the MICHELIN Guide having been awarded three Stars.
The ceremony provides an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the state’s world-class food and culinary experiences and long-established wine credentials to a national and international audience. The ceremony will also be livestreamed globally via the MICHELIN Guide’s official YouTube channel.
Following the announcement, the South Australian culinary destinations will be promoted and listed on the MICHELIN Guide website, which attracts more than 62 million visitors each year, in addition to the organisation’s 3.9 million Instagram followers and 3.8 million app users.
While the MICHELIN Guide is often associated with fine dining, the style of a restaurant and its level of comfort or formality have no bearing on the award. MICHELIN Stars have been awarded to a wide range of eateries from street food stalls to gourmet restaurants.
Tourism Minister Emily Bourke said; “The date has been set for the eyes of the culinary world to be on us as the inaugural MICHELIN Guide South Australia is revealed.”
“The announcement will see South Australia top the travel list for foodies worldwide, with our tourism and hospitality operators set to welcome an influx of bookings that extend well beyond the awarded restaurants to airlines, hotels, tours, experiences, wineries, and more.”
“We have seen reports from New Zealand that there has been a surge in customers, including international bookings at the newly starred restaurants since the awards were announced.”
“I look forward to seeing a variety of places in South Australia – from destination dining to local favourites – officially listed amongst the world’s best.”
“Now is the time to book into your local favourite or bucket-list restaurant, before the rest of the world beats you to it.”
International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, Gwendal Poullennec added; “What has particularly impressed our inspectors is the strong sense of place that runs through South Australia’s dining scene.”
“Beyond Adelaide, restaurants across the state draw inspiration from their immediate surroundings, from exceptional growers and producers to celebrated wine regions and ingredients distinctive to the South Australian landscape.”
“This ingredient-led approach is shaped by multicultural influences and expressed with confidence and personality, while retaining a warmth and relaxed generosity that feels unmistakably South Australian.”
“We look forward to revealing the restaurants that will form the first MICHELIN Guide selection for South Australia.”
