Savour a Taste of Italy in Griffith

Prepare to savour the tastes, sights and sounds of Italy over one delicious weekend as A Taste of Italy combines everything on offer in Griffith.

A Taste of Italy Griffith is a new marketing initiative launched by the Griffith City Council Tourism Team and runs from 23 to 25 August 2019.

Tourism Manager Mirella Guidolin said, it is hoped the event will become a key annual festival weekend.

“This new initiative will make it our third key festival weekend/period, along with the Griffith Easter Party and Griffith Spring Fest in October,” Ms Guidolin said.

“A Taste of Italy Griffith will feature salami, gnocchi, music and much more, showcasing our authentic Italian culture and providing visitors and locals alike with a complete and memorable weekend in Griffith.

“A host of Italian themed events and experiences have been planned for the whole family to enjoy.”

A Taste of Italy Griffith aims to build the Italian offering over the Salami Festival weekend to showcase the City’s true Italian culture.

Chair of the Tourism and Events Committee, Councillor Christine Stead said, she was pleased to see local tourism ambassadors come on board so enthusiastically to offer something Italian for everyone.

“From cooking classes at Sugarmill Patisserie, Polenta e Quale Dinner at the Hanwood Sports Club, and Catania Farm Tours, to tasting salami at Codemo Smallgoods and La Piccola Grosseria and trying Italian varietals at our many wineries, there will be so much to do,” Cr Stead said.

A Taste of Italy’s hero events include the Griffith Italian Festival on Saturday, 24 August at Yoogali Oval from 11am to 5pm. And of course the ever-popular flagship event, the Festa della Salsicce on Sunday, 25 August at Pioneer Park Museum.

The salami judging will be open to the public on Saturday afternoon inside the Yoogali Club, with people able to move freely between the Italian Festival and the judging.

“The Griffith Italian Festival is a brand new event and we have been working very hard with the local organisers to make it a success,” Ms Guidolin said.

“They will be offering authentic Italian food by Zecca Homemade Italian, La Scala Restaurant and Romeo e Giulietta’s, and will have artists, Siesta Cartel and The Rustica Project all the way from Melbourne to perform. This family friendly event will be one not to miss.

“By increasing the awareness and offering on this weekend into one complete program it gives everyone something to do and it allows us to better promote it from one platform.”

Keep an eye on the Visit Griffith website and social media for everything happening over this festive weekend as we celebrate in true Italian style! A printed program will be available soon.
