School buildings destroyed by fire at Walgett

Two school buildings have been destroyed by fire in the state’s north-west overnight.

Emergency services received reports about 11pm (Monday 14 August 2023), of a fire at a school on Warrena Street, Walgett.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and located two buildings well alight. The fires were extinguished; however, both buildings were destroyed.

Officers from Central North Police District established a crime scene and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fires have commenced.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
