Search and Rescue Operation for Missing Elderly Woman at Nawurlandja Rock Lookout

Last night, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) received a report involving a 70-year-old man discovered by Rangers at Nawurlandja Rock Lookout.

The man was found to be in distress, displaying signs of injury, disorientation, and heatstroke. He informed Rangers that his 71-year-old wife, accompanied him and subsequently went missing after leaving him to find help.

Jabiru Police and the local clinic were dispatched to the location. The man was then transported back to the Clinic for further medical attention.

The Search and Rescue team, in collaboration with local rangers and police, fire and emergency services, initiated ground searches to locate the missing woman.

Thankfully, she was found this morning, and is being treated for dehydration.

Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said, “We’re pleased we were able to find the missing woman this morning and reunite her with her husband.

“Police would also like to acknowledge and thank the fantastic efforts from all involved. The Search and Rescue comprised of drone operators, a helicopter with the thermal imaging capability during the night, other agency members from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and additionally Energy Resources of Australia who provided a paramedic to assist.”
