A second man has been charged after a serious crash in Sydney’s south last week.
About 1.35pm on Wednesday 2 January 2019, a Toyota Corolla was travelling north on Connells Point Road, Connells Point, when it hit a parked BMW on the opposite side of the road, before rolling.
The front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old man, suffered serious head and internal injuries, and was taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the Corolla, an 18-year-old man, escaped injury and was taken for mandatory blood and urine testing.
After being released from hospital, the Corolla driver was taken to St George Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive at speed and manner dangerous, and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. His licence was suspended.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday 29 January 2019.
A black Mercedes, which was travelling in front of the Corolla at the time of the crash, left the scene but was subsequently seized by police at an address in Sylvania.
Yesterday (Monday 7 January 2019), the Corolla driver, an 18-year-old man, attended Burwood Police Station where he was arrested.
He was charged with organise, promote race between vehicles (x2), and drive speed manner dangerous.
The Cessnock man was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday 31 January 2019.
His driver’s licence was also suspended.
