Second man charged after CBD reported armed robbery

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a second man following an alleged reported armed robbery that occurred at a gold business in Melbourne’s CBD last month.

A 37-year-old man was arrested earlier today at his home address in Donvale and interviewed by police.

He has subsequently been charged with aggravated burglary, theft, perjury and firearms offences.

The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Armed Crime Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred at a gold business on Collins Street on Monday, 27 April.

A 48-year-old Hawthorn East man was arrested on 29 April and subsequently charged with armed robbery, theft, false imprisonment, armed with criminal intent, common law assault and two counts of non-prohibited person in possession of a handgun.

He was remanded in custody and will appear again at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on the 24 July, 2020.

A 48-year-old Hawthorn East woman was also arrested on 29 April, however she was released pending further enquiries.

As part of the investigation, police searched several suburban properties in Melbourne along with a rural property in Dollar.
