Second man charged after two officers assaulted at Griffith, NSW

A second man will face court tomorrow charged after two officers were allegedly assaulted at Griffith overnight.

About 11pm (Saturday 11 June 2021) officers from Murrumbidgee Police District were conducting an inspection at a licensed premises on Banna Ave, when they were approached by security guards about a group of four men who had been refused entry.

The two officers spoke to the men and issued them with move-on directions.

It’s alleged one of the men, aged 30, then punched a security guard in the head.

When police intervened, he allegedly knocked a 24-year-old male constable to the ground and punched him to the head before also punching a 32-year-old female probationary constable to the head.

The man then allegedly continued to punch the male constable in the head whilst another man held the officer to the ground.

The men then left the scene.

A 30-year-old man has since been charged.

Following inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested after attending Griffith Police Station about 1pm today (Sunday 13 June 2021).

He was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, reckless wounding – in company, affray, excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

The ACT man was also charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic) in relation to an unrelated matter. An outstanding warrant was also executed.

Both men have been refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Bail Court tomorrow (Monday 14 June 2021).

The officers have since been released from hospital.
