Police have charged a second man over the alleged firebombing of a barber shop in Sydney’s Inner West earlier this year.
About 3.30am on Saturday 7 February 2026, emergency services were called to a barber shop on Marrickville Road near Durham Street, Dulwich Hill, following reports of a fire.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and found the shop well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
There were no reports of injuries.
Police established a crime scene and Inner West detectives commenced Strike Force Chiloquin to investigate the cause of the fire.
As part of investigations, strike force detectives have charged one man – aged 43 – over his alleged involvement in the incident. He remains before the court.
Following further investigations, strike force detectives attended a correctional facility in the state’s north today (Wednesday 22 July 2026), where they charged a 49-year-old man with damage property by fire/explosion more than $15,000, use carriage service to threaten serious harm, knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime, and recruit other to assist in carrying out criminal activity.
Police will allege in court the 49-year-old ordered the attack on the barber shop as part of an ongoing feud.
The man was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Newtown Local Court on Tuesday 8 September 2026.
