Second man in court over kidnapping, stabbing at Wollongong, NSW

A second man will face court today following an investigation into an alleged kidnapping and stabbing near Wollongong.

About 9pm on Monday 5 May 2020, emergency services attended a unit complex in Phillips Avenue after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.

Police located a man suffering a stab wound to the chest and he was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.

The 19-year-old man underwent emergency surgery and is currently recovering from his injuries.

Strike Force Edwin was established by detectives from Wollongong Police District to investigate the circumstances surrounding alleged stabbing.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a unit complex on Myuna Way, Mangerton last week (Thursday 14 May 2020), and arrested a 27-year-old man. He remains before the courts.

A crime scene warrant was executed, and a number of items seized for forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested at a home in Warilla yesterday (Wednesday 20 May 2020).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with detain for advantage, in circumstances of special aggravation.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 21 May 2020).
