Second teen charged after fleeing from stolen car in Hawthorn

Police have charged a second teen after he fled from an allegedly stolen car that crashed in Hawthorn on Tuesday, 27 August.

It is alleged the Mercedes lost control and rolled before it landed on its side on a footpath on Barton Street just before 9am.

The two occupants ran from the scene, however, one teen was detained by a member of the public.

Police arrested a 16-year-old Mooroopna boy, and he was charged with theft of motor vehicle and possess a controlled weapon.

He will appear at a children’s court at a later date.

The second offender was arrested by investigators yesterday afternoon at an address in Ashburton.

The 18-year-old Ashburton teen was charged with aggravated burglary and two counts of theft of motor vehicle.

He will appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court today.

It is alleged the Mercedes was allegedly stolen from an address in Ivanhoe East on 21 August.
