Seeking ideas full of heart

Council wants your ideas, big or small, to help reimagine the City of Adelaide post COVID-19.

The City of Adelaide has mowed a giant heart into the lawn in Victoria Square to welcome the community back into the city as part of its Recover + Reimagine program.

The council has launched a new online idea-sharing platform to capture community ideas, big or small, short and long term, about how Adelaide could look as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

The impact of COVID-19 on the community and our economy has been significant, but this interruption to our lives now presents us all with an opportunity to use our imagination and get creative about how we want our city to be in the future.

The Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said the first idea – a giant heart in Victoria Square – had now been installed.

“Being able to spend more time in our beautiful Park Lands has been a silver lining of COVID-19,” the Lord Mayor said.

“So we loved the idea of sending a big green hug to our community as we start to welcome more people back into the city.”

The Recover + Reimagine portal empowers our community to have their say on how they would like us to support the city and North Adelaide.

The Lord Mayor said that the online platform was a great opportunity for the community to share their ideas to help the City of Adelaide recover quickly from the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The people of our city have faced many challenges over the last couple of months, with so much of what makes our city so unique and wonderful, put on hold. Now is the time for us to come together, to get creative and reimagine Adelaide, to reignite what’s unique about our city’s precincts, main streets and Park Lands.

“What steps can Council take to return Adelaide back to a thriving city? How should Council help people feel safe, as we welcome them back into the city? What can Council do more of to support city businesses, so that they can make the most of easing restrictions? We want to hear your ideas,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Council’s new Recover + Reimagine online portal gives everyone a chance to share their ideas, big or small. This is about engaging with all types of people who use the city and encouraging them to share their ideas on what they want to see happening as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.”

The new Recover + Reimagine portal is now open for community members to share their ideas.

Ideas will be collected up until Wednesday 8 July. Each idea to be investigated by Council using the criteria of impact, cost and time.
