Selected TAB agencies to provide limited transaction services

  • Selected TAB outlets will open for cash transaction purposes only
  • Up to four customers only to access an agency at any one time to withdraw and deposit cash, with no racing and wagering content displayed
  • New rules start from Friday, May 1, with strict social distancing measures in place
  • From tomorrow (May 1), a number of TAB outlets will open as ‘Deposit + Withdrawal Centres’ for limited hours, to provide customers who prefer to transact in cash access to their accounts, and assist some small business agents to manage the impacts of COVID-19.

    Strict social distancing measures will be in place, with only up to four customers allowed in the agency at any one time. No audio or vision of any wagering content will be displayed, and no other wagering activity is allowed.

    The changes will assist customers who do not use an online account and are unable to deposit or withdraw funds from their TAB accounts without the outlet being open.

    Brick-and-mortar TAB agencies are owned by small business people and rely on a level of cash transactions. Since agencies were closed on March 25, their earnings have reduced significantly and some customers have been unable to access their accounts.

    The social distancing measures will be over and above those at typical retail outlets, including the major supermarkets – with operations similar to deposit and withdrawal operations at banks, post offices and newsagencies.

    Operator terminals will be spaced three metres apart to maintain social distancing.

    A total of 18 metropolitan and four regional TAB agencies will open as ‘Deposit + Withdrawal Centres’ for limited trading hours each day:

    • Weekdays: 3pm-6pm;
    • Saturday: 9am-6pm; and
    • Sunday: 9am-12pm.

    As stated by Racing and Gaming and Small Business Minister Paul Papalia:

    “Many Western Australians are unable to access their accounts, that’s why some TAB agencies will be allowed to open as ‘Deposit + Withdrawal Centres’ under strict guidelines.

    “It’s a common sense approach, without putting customers or staff at risk.

    “It also helps the State’s small business TAB agents get their businesses back on track, while keeping strong health and social distancing protections in place.”
