Seniors Festival Awards announced

Seniors Festival 2022 kicked off on Monday morning at the Goulburn Workers Club, with the theme for this year being ‘reconnect.’

Attendees heard speeches from Cr Carol James, 2021 Senior of the Year Barbara Beard and Luke Wallace and local young people who spoke on the Youth Mentoring Program. A brilliant performance by the Goulburn Regional Ukulele Band was also enjoyed.

Councillor Daniel Strickland then presented the 2022 awards for Senior of the Year and Senior Group of the Year.

Miriam Lockwood was named the 2022 Senior of the Year, for her devoted volunteering over twenty five years. She has given her time and energy in support of Waminda Aged Care, the Anglicare Op Shop, Daffodil Day, Breast Cancer Support Group, St John’s Oncology Unit and the Goulburn Blues Festival.

Colleen Cooper was the runner up for this year, for her work with CWA and the Goulburn Workers Club social group, and her passion for Goulburn and serving the community. Colleen is a former Senior of the Year, in 2020.

History Goulburn’s Research Team was named the Senior Group of the Year for 2022. Garry & Robyne White have devoted these decades to the research and archiving of local history, building valuable registers, reference books, research tools, writing articles and sharing their knowledge with students, researchers, archaeologists, documentary makers, developers and many others. Their work has encouraged tourists from near and far to visit Goulburn to discover their roots.

The Legacy Lodge Committee was named the runner up for 2022. Legacy Lodge Committee is responsible for the upkeep of the Legacy lodge Independent living facility. The work they do makes life safe and comfortable and supports the resident’s independence. The Committee go quietly about their work and devote a great deal of time to the lodge, their hard work is very much appreciated.
