Seniors set to celebrate at free Capital Theatre concert

The City of Greater Bendigo is holding a special, free concert for older members of the community at 11am at the Capital Theatre on Monday March 21, 2022 featuring the Captain and Tennille of Australian Cabaret, husband and wife team – Melissa Langton and Mark Jones.

City of Greater Bendigo Health and Wellbeing Director Vicky Mason said the concert was due to have taken place during the 2021 Bendigo Seniors Festival which was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“We were so disappointed to cancel the concert last year during the Seniors Festival but we are excited to have rescheduled it for March for our older residents to enjoy,” Ms Mason said.

“Many of our senior residents have been quite isolated over the past couple of years and the concert is an opportunity for them to come together and enjoy some great entertainment.

“The concert will be a joyous, foot stamping, hand clapping and fun filled hour of the swinging sixties and smooth sounds of the 70s with performers Melissa Langton and Mark Jones.”

Melissa Langton’s versatility as an entertainer is highlighted by her unique performances in cabaret, music theatre and on the concert platform. She is renowned for devising and performing her own cabaret shows alongside her husband and Musical Director, Mark Jones, including; I Got The Music in Me (1998), What’s New Pussycat? (1999), What Do You Think of Me So Far??? (2001), Me and Mr Jones (2002), A Walk on the Wild Side (2005), No Room to Swing A Cat (2006), Can You Hear Me Up The Back? (2007) and A Singer Must Die (2013).

The Bendigo Seniors Concert will feature an avalanche of easy listening hits from Tom Jones, Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and The Papas, Petula Clark, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Carole King, The Fab Four, The Carpenters, Olivia Newton-John, ABBA, Helen Reddy, Peter Allen, Elton John, The Little River Band, Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, Sister Janet Meade and Kermit The Frog!
