Sentimental items stolen in Newtown burglary

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are searching for heartless thieves who stole personal letters addressed to family members.

Police have been told unknown offenders gained entry into the house on Sherbourne Terrace, in Newtown via a kitchen window between 10.15am and 1.30pm last Tuesday 11 June.

While inside, they stole an extensive range of jewellery including engagement and wedding rings, along with the personal letters.

Pearl necklaces, Pandora necklaces and bracelets, gold chains, bracelets, pearls and opals were also stolen.

The offenders made off with other items including a Nikon camera, camera lenses and bag, Olympus camera, an IPad, an e-book reader in a purple case and hearing aids.

It is believed the offenders also stole a pink handled shopping cart and a bright pink bag.

The cart was located later the same day in the North Geelong area.

The bright pink bag is still missing.

Detective Senior Constable Nikki Kowalski from Geelong Crime Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who knows anything about the incident or the location of the stolen property to contact police.

“I’m really keen to see the owner reunited with his belongings that mean so much to him, especially the personal letters which are irreplaceable”, she said.

Investigators have released images of some of the stolen jewellery and the shopping cart frame, and are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
