Sergeant Graham Thomas has today concluded an incredible policing career, receiving a Commissioner’s Commendation for Service after almost five decades of commitment to the people of New South Wales.
Colleagues, friends, and family gathered at Wyong Police Station earlier today (Friday 25 September 2026) to farewell the General Duties Sergeant for Tuggerah Lakes Police District, celebrating a career spanning 48 years.
Prior to becoming a police officer, Sergeant Thomas commenced his policing career as a Cadet with Victoria Police in 1971, before he and his family moved to New South Wales.
Unable to join the NSW Police Cadets due to his age, he then served in the Australian Army Reserve and later as a fireman with Fire and Rescue NSW.
Joining the NSW Police Force in 1978, Sergeant Thomas began his career as a Probationary Constable at Gosford Police Station.
Four years later in 1981 he was designated as a Detective, working across stations in Hornsby, Sydney, Eastwood, Redfern, Wyong, Toukley, and The Entrance.
In 1989, he joined Crime Stoppers, contributing to the program through weekly TV broadcasts and progressing lines of enquiry through the services dedicated anonymous hotline.
A year later, he spent 12 months working as a police radio operator at VKG.
He was promoted to Sergeant in 1995 as a General Duties Supervisor for The Entrance Police Station before completing a three-month rotation as a Duty Operations Inspector in 2002, further adding to his considerable breadth of policing experience.
Until his retirement in 2026, Sergeant Thomas provided more than three decades of experience, leadership, and supervision to the Central Coast community.
Marking 48 years to the day since he began his career, Sergeant Thomas completed his final march out, awarded the Commissioner’s Commendation for Service for his lifetime commitment to the NSW Police Force.
