Serious assault police charges in Ayr, QLD

Two men have been charged after allegedly assaulting police responding to a disturbance in Ayr this morning, resulting in officers being hospitalised from their injuries.

Shortly after 3am, officers responded to reports of a large group causing a disturbance and fighting outside a food takeaway shop on Queen Street.

Upon arrival, three constables were allegedly assaulted by two men before they were taken into custody.

It will be alleged the officers sustained bruising, grazes and bite marks.

Two 23-year-old men have been charged with serious assault police officer causing bodily harm, serious assault police officer, serious assault police by biting/spitting and commit public nuisance. One of the men has also been charged with contravention of a Domestic Violence Order.

Both men have been refused police bail to face the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, June 14.
