Serious assault police charges in Townsville City, QLD

Police have charged a man with serious assault police following an incident in Townsville City yesterday morning.

Two officers attended a location along Flinders Lane in Townsville City shortly before 10.30am, February 11, in relation to another matter (noise complaint).

Upon arrival, a man approached the officers before allegedly becoming aggressive and an altercation ensued. Officers deployed a taser twice before taking the man into custody with the assistance of a third officer.

The man was transported to Townsville University Hospital for medical clearance then transported to Townsville Watchhouse.

The 44-year-old Townsville City man has since been charged with one count each of serious assault police officer causing bodily harm, serious assault police officer by biting spitting, serious assault police officer, serious assault public officer and commit public nuisance.

He is expected to appear at Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, February 13.

A 41-year-old male Senior Constable sustained minor injuries (cut to lip) in the incident.
