A 52 year old male from Plenty is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition following a serious quad bike crash approximately 8km east of Glenora.
The crash occurred at approximately 5pm on Saturday the 23rd of February 2019 on a forestry trail off Bluff Road when the male failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the road and hit an embankment before being thrown from the vehicle. At the time of the crash the male was in the company of three other men who were also riding in the area and were able to alert emergency services to the crash.
Two police rescue helicopters attended the scene and with the assistance of local paramedics and a doctor the male was stabilised before being flown to the RHH for surgery where he remains critical.
Local police along with Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended the scene and carried out an investigation of the scene and the area leading up to the crash.
The area is well known to the riders and they visit the area often. Initial investigations suggest that excessive speed may be a contributing factor. The male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
