Serious traffic crash in Surfers Paradise, QLD

A teenage boy has been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in Surfers Paradise earlier tonight.

Initial inquiries indicate at 9.15pm a car was travelling north on Ferny Avenue when it has hit a pedestrian on the edge of the road at the intersection with Cavill Avenue.

The 16-year-old Gold Coast boy was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the car returned a positive breath test and was transported to Surfers Paradise Police Station for further testing.

A 79-year-old Victorian man was subsequently served with a notice to appear for middle range drink driving after returning a breath alcohol concentration of 0.117 percent. He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on March 20.
