Serious traffic crash involving stolen car in Underwood, QLD

Two men have been injured after an alleged stolen vehicle crashed at high speed in Underwood last night.

Preliminary investigations indicate just after 11pm, POLAIR observed a Mitsubishi Lancer which had been stolen on October 4 from Woolloongabba, travelling through the Logan area.

The vehicle was seen allegedly driving at excessive speeds northbound on the Gateway Motorway.

At around 11.25pm the car crashed into another vehicle on the Pacific Motorway near the Underwood Road overpass before two men allegedly fled the scene.

They were taken into custody soon after by a passing motorcycle officer.

Police attended the scene and blocked the northbound lanes of the highway. The driver and the 25-year-old male passenger were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from Deception Bay, was released from hospital and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

He is scheduled to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 8.

The passenger is expected to be released from hospital later this morning.

The three occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash were uninjured.

Detectives from Upper Mount Gravatt CIB are investigating the incident.
